Fonts on receipts are mostly monospace sans serif which meant they did not need kerning. It is a font that has fixed-pitch, fixed-width, or non-proportional font, where the letters and characters each occupy the same amount of horizontal space.  I knew I wanted to attempt creating monospace sans serifs.
