LECTURE

It was my first class ever and although I was not able to attend due to injuring myself prior to class, I was able to watch the recording of the whole session and gained a lot of key information regarding the module and the projects ahead.

For the lecture, Mr Fauzi had explained about Adobe Photoshop which is my favorite Adobe Program since I used it for a long time. Despite my experience with it, I know that I can learn so much more from this module in terms of Imaging and how to create aesthetic graphics. He also talked about the Importance of Photoshop for Graphic Design and the Top 10 Tips of Successful Graphic Designer.

Two tips that I want to take note of are Tip #2 and Tip #10.

I find these two tips quite important for me to take note of because I rarely do experiment with different types of styles and techniques when I create a design. It would be good if I could experiment with something new during this module. Tip #10 is just a reminder to keep my files organized, especially my layers when I'm designing which can be a little disorganized when I am lazy.

Other than that, Mr Fauzi showed us our senior's works which were very inspiring and made me very excited to create works like that myself. My favorite one was made by Lim He Yu. I love the falling animation and the color pallette of the piece. It can be interpreted in many ways but this is certainly a personal piece that only the artist would know what each element really represented.

TUTORIAL

We were briefed on our first Project (Project 1A) which was to create a physical collage using many different types of materials. Mr Fauzi showed us a video on the process of collage and it helped me understand the random nature of collage and even tips like taking photo of the composition before gluing them together which will certainly save me from trying to recall it from memory.

PRACTICAL

For practical, we played the Bezier game and I managed to achieve 18 nodes left. I rarely use the pen tool so it was hard to get used to it but after playing, I understand better on how the pen tool works.

Next, I created this blog! I watched a couple videos on how to use blogspot/blogger and personalize your blog so that it could help me get used to its interface and tools. I am excited to see the future of this blog and one day go back to this post to reminisce.

Lastly, Mr Fauzi told us to list three of our favorite graphic design work from Pinterest and explain why. This is what I have chosen:

This is one of my favorites because of how well it understands visual hierarchy and has eye-catching graphics. It lets the viewer instantly know what the poster is about because of that. It also has a limited amount of colors which makes it look very neat and minimalistic.

Although this one is quite simple, I love it for its variety of textures and its emphasis on the main color. It uses dry media alongside digital elements making the design interesting.

The New Yorker cover for the December 12, 1984 issue is also one of my favourites. It emphasizes the title using the space of the sky and has a very detailed illustration of the architecture shown. The color tone of this design is cool toned which fits the night atmosphere of the design. Other than that, it uses traditional media such as watercolor which fits the piece well.
