LECTURE

INTRODUCTION TO COMPOSITION

  • Introduction to basic composition

- Focal Point


- Scale & Hierarchy
helps direct the viewer to see what you want them to see

- Balance the Elements
each element have weight

- White Space "empty space"
balance the main focus of a composition and helps your design breathe

  • Rule of Thirds

It is the process of dividing an image into thirds making four intersections points (of interest).

An example:

Photo Composition Tips
- use leading lines
- use diagonal lines to create movement
- get close to your subject
- use patterns (interrupted patterns are great too!)
- using symmetry

  • Golden Ratio

Commonly found in nature and when used in a design, creates an organic and natural-looking compositions.

  • Composition (Framing & Cropping)
Types of Frames

SINGLE
- a single character is the primary focus
- to show isolation

TWO SHOT
- to show the visual relationship between two characters

OVER THE SHOULDER
- makes viewers feel like they are a part of a story

POV
- see what the character sees / hears what the character hears



PRACTICAL



Mr Fauzi gave us a lot of time to work with materials that we had gathered for the physical collage work for Project 1. We worked on it and Mr Fauzi gave some feedback to the ones that submitted early. He suggested to me that the second composition was the best to move forward with.
