Animation and I
What I love about animation & why I want to be an animator.
Other than being a source of entertainment, animation has been a part of my life since I was a kid up until now. Some may say that I have not grown up but people simply underestimate the power that animations hold. If you have the brain to think it, you can make it. Just like the imagination, the animation is endless. I love that animation can be a form of self-expression, a way to convey information, and a platform to tell stories.
In conclusion, I want to tell stories through something I love doing the most - art.
Sharing my favorite animation.
The defining moment in my life where I knew I wanted to pursue a field in animation is when I watched the movie Kimi No Nawa or more known as Your Name by Makoto Shinkai for the first time. I could not explain the emotion I felt and how amazed I was by the production of the film. I wondered how a 2D animated movie about two people falling in love impacted me so deeply when I don't have similar experiences as the characters. I believed it was due to the cinematography. The colors and camera angles that assisted the beautiful animation helped the viewers understand the emotions that the movie was trying to portray. The excitement of falling in love, the fear of life and death situations, as well as the sadness of saying goodbye to someone you care about. Makoto Shinkai managed to portray universal experiences through the lens of a teenage girl that lived in the countryside of Japan and a teenage boy living in the bustling city of Tokyo. The core of the characters may seem plain but the writing and story of the film develop them into real relatable people that have hopes and dreams. They long for someone, and they also get hurt.
Due to how deeply this film had impacted me, I dream to create a narrative, an animation, or a visual that despite coming from personal experiences, many others can share the emotion of the characters. They can be inspired artistically and learn something valuable from it.
