Katana + Ninja Spin and Land

Katana Tornado Slash

Gun + Roll Over

I thought this movement was really cool due to the change in expression of shocked to fierce. Also, it reminded me of secret agents which is a really cool concept I am fond of.

Chosen Reference

Gun + Roll Over

Extreme Poses

I break down the poses so I can understand the main poses that is in the movement.

Animatic

I created an animatic using the extreme poses so that I can better understand the movement and also figure out how and where I want the camera placed for the final.

Draft

Draft 1

In Draft 1, I put down the fundamental keyframes and asked for Mr. Kamal's advice on creating a rolling animation. I also parented the gun to the hand using object constraint, Child of.

FEEDBACKS

Week 13

Specific Feedback: To make the body roll, use the waist and feet IK to rotate it in the direction you want it to.

Week 14

Specific Feedback: Good try. A good rule of thumb for static poses is to add 6 frames at the front and back. Make the shock expression longer. When the head is fully turned, then switch to angle 2. In angle 2, turn from normal expression to shock. No need to show the character going down. Show that in angle 3. Moving hold the crouch to kind of create anticipation before he rolls. There is a jerkiness before he is about to roll which may be from his arm. For the last part, focus on him crouching first before raising the gun to make the movement look more clear. The last angle should start when he finally raises his gun to shoot.

REFLECTIONS

For this project, I learned quite a lot and had a good experience. This was such a major leap from the previous projects and I was really proud of the improvement that I have done. While there are still parts that can be polished, I am happy with the skills I have learned through this project. Using the skills from past projects, I was able to build the foundation of the project. However, there were still some parts that had a gap in my knowledge of 3D animating which was the rollover. Mr. Kamal was definitely a huge help in that aspect because he taught me how to tackle that problem and showed me how to step by step. With his assistance and guidance, I was able to complete the full motion and only needed a bit of touch up such as adding Moving Hold and anticipation to my movement so it's more visually interesting. Overall, I had a good experience completing Final Project because I learned a lot and improved myself as an animator. The strength that I had doing this project was the way I broke down the poses one by one to better understand the poses. I am the type to really observe and analyze a movement which I believe is a good skill to have as an animator. Meanwhile, my weakness was that I am not yet well practiced in creating a movement visually interesting. I did not take into consideration Moving Hold and anticipation. Therefore, as an animator, I should take note of these aspects not as a way to make my art more interesting but also to better communicate the movement clearly to the audience. I learned that there are always more things to improve your work and especially in 3D animation where one could go the realistic route or the more cartoony route.
