LECTURE
Mr Fauzi introduced us to the module and briefed us about the module information booklet. He explained that this semester while it some aspects it may be similar to Digital Imaging and Photography, we are moving forward to a more 3D concept. We also watched previous students works.
Basic Principles of Form & Design
1. Movement
Movement is the path the viewer's eye takes through the work of art, often to focal areas.
2. Hierarchy
Hierarchy is the control of visual information in an arrangement or presentation to imply importance.
3. Balance
Balance is a visual interpretation of gravity in the design. It used to add stability, and structure, create emphasis and dynamics.
4. Direction
Direction flows the way your eye moves through a composition.
5. Symmetry
Symmetry is when elements are arranged in the same way on both sides of an axis.
6. Focus
Focus is areas of interest, emphasis, or difference within a composition that holds the viewer's attention.
7. Scale
Scale refers to the relative size of a design element in comparison to another element.
8. Rhythm
Rhythm is created when one or more elements of design are used repeatedly to create a feeling of organized movement.

PRACTICAL
We filled in the form for our e-portfolio link and the Pinterest board that we will be using for the semester.
Moreover, we were tasked to create a collage with 3D concepts. We have to prepare the collage's design elements for the Week 2 exercise.
I had only gotten materials for the 3D collage. The items I prepared were:
- gouache
- sticks
- all-purpose glue
- paper clay
- mounting board
- colored paper
- translucent colored paper
Inspirations:
1. 3D Collages

These are my inspirations for 3D collages. As seen in these photos, they used a bunch of different materials, mostly paper. They organized them in a way that shows a sense of space. The way they folded and layered the paper collage is also very creative and something I want to try to achieve in mine. As for the one with the different materials, it is very interesting how they paid close attention to the colors to shape a face and its features. It gives an abstract look.
2. Story and Color
Sketches
1. Trapped Under the Waves

Fig 1.2: House in the Flood (13/4/2023) |
Meaning: Being stuck in a hopeless place.
3D Element: The house is made out of sticks/ random items.
Symbolism: Birds, meaning escape.
2. The Reach

Fig 1.3: Climbing towards a door (13/4/2023) |
Meaning: trying to reach an unknown door, goal, or world such as entering the adult world.
Background: Collage, meaning chaos, stress, and confusion
3D Element: Stairs, door, and person.
