Project (What it is, What I need to do)

My first major project entailed a pivotal role in crafting the Raya visuals for 2024, a significant endeavor for Qra, our esteemed retail store and grocery mart. Recognizing the importance of captivating visuals to entice customers during festive seasons and effectively promote our offerings, the Qra Creative team developed a cohesive key visual to maintain consistency across all Raya-themed designs.

While I wasn't directly involved in the creation of the Raya Mailer, its contents were pivotal as it encapsulated vital information regarding promotions and product launches for the festive period, influencing the direction of all other designs.

My responsibilities encompassed an array of Raya visuals, including posters, decorations, greeting cards, digital banners, newsletters/EDMs, and POS materials. Each piece demanded meticulous attention to detail and a creative touch to resonate with our target audience and amplify the festive ambiance within our store.

Action (What I did do)

Embarking on the Raya visuals project, I commenced with the creation of the Raya Packet Redemption Poster, striving to seamlessly integrate it with the existing Raya key visual while incorporating the meticulously designed Raya Packets crafted by our talented in-house designer. Harnessing the power of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I ensured precision and finesse in every detail.

Transitioning to the realm of Visual Merchandising, I took charge of adorning our stores with captivating Raya decorations, strategically placing bulkheads atop shelves to accentuate select products and infuse a festive ambience. Drawing inspiration from the established colour palette and design elements of the key visual and Raya Packet, I seamlessly integrated mood shots from our Raya photoshoot to enhance the visual appeal.

In addition, I delved into crafting Raya Greeting Cards and digital banners, meticulously ensuring clarity of details, accurate dates, and terms and conditions, particularly for platforms like Otomate's website and app.

Collaborating closely with the F&B team, I designed POSM for the bakery section, aligning with the promotion of Raya Kuih and cookies, and ensuring synergy with our overall Raya theme.

Moving forward, I embarked on creating Raya POS designs to grace screens at checkout cashiers, leveraging mood shots to effectively showcase our array of Raya products and produce.

Finally, I curated engaging content for the Raya EDM, a newsletter disseminated to Qra customers, detailing our current events and promotions. Moreover, I crafted a compelling Raya Activity poster to be featured within the EDM, enriching the customer experience and fostering engagement.

Additionally, I took on the task of crafting a special Raya Greeting exclusively for Qra staff. This animated greeting aimed to foster a sense of camaraderie and celebration among team members during the festive period. By infusing it with animation, I sought to bring a touch of joy and warmth to our internal communications, strengthening bonds and enhancing the festive spirit within the Qra family.

Result

As the culmination of my efforts, all the Raya visuals under my purview were meticulously completed and subjected to thorough feedback from both the team and my supervisor. Ensuring seamless accessibility, I diligently uploaded all assets to SharePoint, facilitating easy collaboration and reference.

With precision and attention to detail, I oversaw the printing of posters and coordinated the transmission of files to the designated printing company for items like the greeting cards and Raya decorations. This meticulous process ensured that every visual element met our standards of excellence and authenticity.

As the Raya campaign approached its crescendo during Week 5, the culmination of our efforts became evident as Raya decorations adorned the stores, setting the stage for a festive atmosphere. Simultaneously, our digital visuals were strategically published on our website and app, amplifying our Raya promotions and offerings to our valued customers.

Reflection: Challenges & Learning

Embarking on this project initially brought about a mix of emotions - a blend of nervousness and honor at being entrusted with such a significant responsibility, particularly for an event as culturally significant as Raya. The magnitude of the tasks ahead felt a bit overwhelming at first, especially considering my limited experience with promotional posters. However, I approached the challenge with determination and a keen eye for detail.

One of the initial hurdles I faced was deciphering the key visual and seamlessly integrating it into various design elements. This process required patience and collaboration with my team, who provided invaluable support and guidance. Access to the design SharePoint proved to be a treasure trove of inspiration, allowing me to glean insights from past designs and refine my approach.

As I gradually acclimated to the key visual, the subsequent tasks began to unfold with greater ease. From crafting Bulkhead designs to conceptualizing the Raya Greeting card and Otomate banners, each endeavor presented an opportunity for growth and creativity. Collaborating closely with the F&B team on bakery POSM and POS added a dynamic layer to the project, further enriching the overall visual narrative.

Reflecting on the journey, I acknowledge the importance of meticulous typesetting and thorough cross-checking. Moving forward, I am committed to refining these skills and ensuring that every aspect of my designs is polished to perfection. This experience has been both humbling and empowering, reaffirming my passion for design and my capacity to overcome challenges with resilience and dedication.

Project 2: Food & Beverages

  • Cuppa & Crumbs
  • Cuppa & Crumbs - Ramadhan Special
  • Ramadhan Set for 2
  • Gourmet Sandwich POSM
  • Gourmet Sandwich Glass Panel Sticker
  • Arcoris Menu Photoshoot
  • New Bagels, Buns & Juices Photoshoot

Project

he project encompassed all aspects related to our Food & Beverage team and our bakery offerings. It kicked off with the exciting launch of Cuppa & Crumbs, featuring a delightful combination of drinks and pastries at a special promotional rate. My role involved crafting visually appealing posters tailored for both print and digital platforms to capture the attention of our customers.

As the Ramadhan season approached, the F&B team expanded the Cuppa & Crumbs promotion, introducing a wider selection of drinks and the Ramadhan Set for 2 promotion at Arcoris.

Building on the success of Cuppa & Crumbs, the F&B team rolled out a special promotion for the Ramadhan season, offering the Ramadhan Set for 2 at Arcoris.

Next on the agenda was enhancing the Gourmet Sandwiches Point of Sale Materials (POSM), which included updating their dimensions and content. Additionally, supplementary POSM were developed to guide customers to the display of our delectable Gourmet Sandwiches. To further elevate the presentation, I was entrusted with creating an eye-catching glass panel sticker for the Gourmet Sandwiches display.

Amidst the hustle, we seamlessly transitioned into promoting our offerings at Arcoris through a captivating photoshoot, highlighting the Ramadhan specials, Gourmet Sandwiches, and other menu additions such as bagels, buns, and juices.

Particular emphasis was placed on showcasing our new additions to the menu, including bagels, buns, and juices, ensuring they were presented in the most appetizing light.

Action

For Cuppa & Crumbs, I utilized the template provided by Claire to meticulously incorporate the pertinent details for our latest promotion. Skillfully adapting them into various sizes ensured widespread visibility. Collaboration with the F&B team was integral as we synchronized the updated information seamlessly. Leveraging Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I meticulously crafted and optimized the glass panel sticker for printing, drawing upon the expertise imparted by my supervisor.

As Ramadhan approached, I seamlessly integrated Ramadhan elements into our Cuppa & Crumbs poster, infusing it with the spirit of the season while updating relevant information. Additionally, I helped the F&B team, assisting in the resizing and printing of the Ramadhan Set for 2 poster, ensuring its seamless integration into our promotional strategy.

Next on the agenda was updating the Gourmet Sandwiches Point of Sale Materials (POSM), which included resizing and including new copy. Additionally, I designed another POSM to guide customers to the display of our Gourmet Sandwiches. To further elevate the presentation, I created the a glass panel sticker for the display. I made sure the size were exact to the size of the display and prepared it for printing.

Furthermore, I actively involved in the photoshoot of our new bagels, buns and juices, capturing them from various angles for both promotional posters and e-commerce purposes.

As Ramadhan approached, I seamlessly integrated Ramadhan elements into our Cuppa & Crumbs poster, infusing it with the spirit of the season while updating relevant information. Additionally, I lent my expertise to the F&B team, assisting in the resizing and printing of the Ramadhan Set for 2 poster, ensuring its seamless integration into our promotional strategy.

Result/Successes

As a result, the POSMs for the Gourmet Sandwiches, the Cuppa & Crumbs poster were put up at the store. The Gourmet Sandwiches got more attention and the promotions for Cuppa & Crumbs were able to be shared with the customers at the store. As for the Ramadhan promotions, they managed to come out on the right timeline.

Reflection: Challenges & Learning

In reflection, this project has been instrumental in honing my interpersonal skills, particularly through frequent interactions with the F&B team to ensure alignment between design specifications and their vision. Initially, tackling the Cuppa & Crumbs poster task invoked a sense of trepidation as I grappled with uncertainty. However, I learned the invaluable lesson that seeking guidance from my supervisor is not only permissible but encouraged. This experience underscored the importance of proactive communication and seeking clarification when in doubt—a crucial aspect of professional growth and ensuring accuracy in my work.

Moving forward, I am committed to embracing this lesson and fostering a culture of openness and collaboration within the workplace. Recognizing that it is part of my responsibility to seek guidance when needed, I am poised to become a more responsible and detail-oriented employee. Moreover, this experience has instilled in me a newfound confidence in my abilities. Despite initial reservations, the positive reception of my photography during the photoshoot affirmed not only my photography skills but also bolstered my confidence in my overall design abilities.

While this project presented its share of challenges, such as the need for heightened attention to detail, I view them as opportunities for growth and refinement. Armed with newfound insights and experiences, I am poised to navigate future projects with greater confidence, competence, and resilience.

Project 3: Easter 2024

  • Hot Cross Buns POSM
  • Hot Cross Buns Photoshoot
  • Easter 2024 Posters

Project

In this project, Qra celebrates Easter with an Easter activity, the Egg Hunt, and launches a new pastry - the Hot Cross Buns.

I was responsible for designing the Hot Cross Buns POSM and was in charge of the Hot Cross Buns Photoshoot. Moreover, I was tasked to assist with the Easter 2024 Posters adaptations.

Action

Therefore with task given, I designed the Hot Cross Buns POSM based of the Easter KV done by Alissa, our team's graphic designer. I made three different versions since there are three promotional prices for each quantity. Then, I assisted Alissa with the posters by adapting the Egg Hunt poster to TV sizes for the store and creating the Hot Cross Buns poster using the photos we took during the Hot Cross Buns Photoshoot which I was also involved in.

Result/Successes

The project resulted in many people signing up for the Egg Hunt due to our posters and many purchases of the Hot Cross Buns. The posters were posted on Instagram, all around the stores and on our TV screen displays.

Reflection: Challenges & Learning

During the project, I learned a lot about the importance of being confident in ur work. I was nervous that the Hot Cross Buns photos that I took were not good enough to be used for any design but I was complimented for my work. The social media team had even used it for the Easter Instagram postings which made me feel good about my photography skills. I believe photography is an important aspect of design and I was happy that I got to practice and use it in a real-life setting due to this project. Moreover, since I was getting familiar with how Qra's design requirements were, it was easy to adapt the KV into the POSMs and posters.

Project 4: Wine Of The Month

  • WOTM March
  • WOTM April

Project

For this project, Qra and its esteemed collaborator/supplier, Liberty, are thrilled to unveil the highly anticipated Wine of the Month. This monthly feature is a highlight for wine enthusiasts, offering a curated selection that showcases the finest offerings from Liberty's esteemed collection. Typically, our talented graphic designer crafts a template that serves as the canvas for this announcement, meticulously detailing the unique aroma, flavor profile, and recommended pairing for each wine. These essential details are graciously provided by Liberty, ensuring that our customers receive comprehensive insights into each featured wine, enriching their appreciation and enjoyment of the selection.

Action

Embarking on my internship journey, I was entrusted with the pivotal task of crafting the Wine of the Month poster, a project that marked my inaugural contribution to the team. Armed with the information provided by Liberty, I set out to create a design template that would not only capture the essence of the featured wine but also showcase its unique specialties in an engaging and visually appealing manner.

Drawing inspiration from the rich nuances of each wine, I meticulously crafted individual designs for both March and April, ensuring that each poster exuded its own distinct charm and allure. Through thoughtful selection of colors, typography, and imagery, I sought to underscore the exceptional qualities of the featured wines, inviting customers to embark on a sensory journey with each sip.

This endeavor served as a significant milestone in my internship experience, allowing me to apply my creativity and design skills to a real-world project while also deepening my understanding of the intricacies of wine promotion and marketing. It was a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the vibrant tapestry of Qra's offerings and set the stage for future endeavors throughout my internship journey.

Result/Successes

The two posters I designed are posted during each of their promotion month.

Reflection: Challenges & Learning

Indeed, the journey of creating the Wine of the Month posters taught me invaluable lessons that transcend the realm of design. One of the most profound revelations was the power of taking inspiration from previous works while infusing them with my own unique style. By studying past designs and drawing from their strengths, I was able to develop a design template that resonated with the essence of the featured wines while still reflecting my own creative vision.

Moreover, this experience underscored the importance of patience and allowing oneself the time to fully explore ideas and concepts. In a world often driven by deadlines and rapid turnaround times, I discovered that embracing a deliberate and thoughtful approach can lead to truly remarkable outcomes. By taking the time to refine my designs and explore different possibilities, I uncovered new creative avenues and ultimately produced work that surpassed my expectations.

Ultimately, this journey reinforced the notion that growth and innovation thrive in an environment of exploration, patience, and self-expression. By embracing these principles, I not only expanded my design skills but also cultivated a deeper appreciation for the transformative power of creativity and perseverance.

Project 5: Small Projects / Tasks

  • Join Us Page Website Icons
  • Liberty Tags
  • Ecomm Images + Lavand Etch Out

Project

There were various small projects and tasks that I did during my internship. Firstly, I had to make Liberty Tags for a list of tags for the different wines for all three stores. Then, I was tasked to adapt the Easter 2024 Posters to assist the graphic designer of my team. Moreover, I have to etch out photos for Raya and prepped E-commerce images. Last but not least, we had to have a photoshoot for the Arcoris Menu for Grab and design icons for the website.

Action

I designed the Liberty Tags a perfect copy of the current one. I printed them all out for all three stores and cut them up. Afterwards, I sent them down to the store to be put up. Moreover, I also prepared and prepped the E-Commerce Images and Lavand Etch Outs using Adobe Photoshop. Other than that, I designed the Website Icons for the Join Us page for E-commerce.

Result/Successes

The Liberty tags were put up at all stores, the website icons are completed, approved and sent to the E-commerce team as well as the etch-out images request.

Reflection: Challenges & Learning

In conclusion, I gained a lot of skills as well from these mini-projects. Other than learning how to adapt posters, which I learned in Raya, I also learned the importance of being focused on the details whether it be the type size, copy or information.
