Week 1Basic Principles of Form & Design

Week 2: Introduction to Motion Graphics

INSTRUCTIONS

Task 1
Technical and Motion Graphics Sensibilities

For task 1, we were to develop motion graphics based on design principles such as symmetry, focus, scale, and rhythm.

PART 1

I decided to only create my own for Symmetry, Focus, Scale, and Rhythm. For Symmetry, I decided to show it through arrow-shaped objects moving in the same direction symmetrical. For Focus, I had a small heart beating into a bigger heart, it slowly gains focus for the viewer even with a 'busy' and crowded background of circles floating. I added blur effects to the circle to emphasize the focus of the heart. Moreover, for scale, I started off with two circles of the same size, doing the same motion, circling each other. However, one gets bigger and one gets smaller, to show scale. Last but not least, for rhythm, I decided to create rhythm through motion by having rectangles increase in height following a sort of rhythm. It is inspired by equalizers seen in audio editing.

PART 2

In Part 2, my main idea was just to have all of the parts displayed. I wanted it to layer a lot at the start and slowly strip away the layers.

Final

With the feedback given, I finished the final with added transition and story.

FEEDBACKS

Week 6

Specific Feedback: For Part 1, each design principle was nicely done. For Part 2, the intro was good but I still need practice on compositing. I need to work more on transitions.

REFLECTIONS

In this project, I had a good experience and was able to revise using After Effects. I love creating motion graphics and being able to animate shapes to represent the design principles was enjoyable. I have some strengths such as my skills and ability to use After Effects. My fluency in using After Effects definitely did help for this Project. The skills were translated in Part 1 but not so much in Part 2's draft due to me not being sure I could use transitions. I have have misread the requirements and how I could do for Part 2. However, after feedbacks, I understood how I can manipulate the different compositions to create an interesting 'remix'. Moreover, I am proud of the task done and am grateful for all the guidance and feedback given by Mr Fauzi because it definitely helped me improve. I found that I should definitely be more experimental in motion graphics to create unique pieces of work.
