REFLECTIONS
Experience
Typography was a challenging yet rewarding module I have this semester.
I learned a lot and improved so much since the first class. The
experience is lovely and it leaves me excited for future projects that
relate to Typography. I feel equipped with basic knowledge that can make
sure that the type in my future works will look at the very most -
decent. Classes were fruitful and consultation hours helped me, even
when it was not about my work. It helped me be able to be critical of my
own work and see what can be improved.
My two lecturers were nothing less than kind, motivating and was able to
push me to produce the best work I can do. Mr Vinod had always managed
to give good feedback and helped me see my work in a different light. Mr
Charles' feedbacks will always be welcomed as well as his humor.
Overall, Typography was a delightful module to take that filled me with
so much knowledge and increased my appreciation towards type.
Observation
I observed that for subjects like Typography, I had to keep myself
organized and up to date. Ever since the semester started, I had
became a more organized person that cared more about the details
such as my e-portfolio. Back then, I would do the best I was willing
to do but having an e-portfolio that documented my every progress, I
wanted to do it right. It definitely benefit me since throughout the
semester I would look back at my old posts, rereading my notes
regarding Typography lectures to remind myself. Typography helped me
in not only the module itself but other modules where I would use
type in my designs.
Moreover, I observed that I had improved greatly in my skills in
Typography which I can see from comparing my very first work in
Typography to the current works. It is nice to see how far I have
come in 14 weeks and I still have so much more to learn.
In conclusion, I observed that I became more organized, resourceful
and grown.
Findings
I found that having lectures at the start of the semester rather than
throughout really helped in making sure I had sufficient amount of
knowledge about Typography before I take on more difficult tasks. With
the knowledge I had gained from the start of semester, I was able to
apply them on to the tasks throughout the semester. However, I did
find them a little stressful to bear at the start of a new semester
since I was not yet used to receiving all the knowledge at
once.
Other than that, I found through this module that I should be more
confident in trying out designs that are different and difficult. I
had the tendency to sticking to ideas that felt easy and safe but
breaking from that bubble can produce work that could exceed my own
expectations. I learned that being a designer is also about being
brave to be different and to try something new. Only when we have the
courage can we better express the idea in mind.
